Written Question on the waiver of the arms embargo to Syria19.6.2013
To the Vice-President/High-representative
With regard to the decision of the Council not to extend the EU's arms embargo to the Syrian opposition on 28 May 2013, we would like to pose the following questions:
What checks will be carried out to ensure that the issuing of weapons and ammunition does not contribute to human rights abuses?
What procedures will be put in place for proper accounting for the storage, registration and use of any arms and ammunition?
Are there political consultations planned between Member states regarding exchange of information on post-embargo military transfers?
