June 2013 presidential elections in Iran: What future for freedom of expression and independent media
On Tuesday 25 June 2013
at 14.00 in the European Parliament
Room ASP 5 E1
Over 200 journalists have been jailed in Iran since the 2009 elections and at least 30 still remain in jail. The Association of Iranian Journalists, shut down in August 2009, has not been able to operate since the several of its leaders have been detained, with some still held in jail. Iranian civil society lives with a sharp fear of arbitrary arrest and detention, torture, unfair trial and excecution.
The participants in round table discussion are MEP Tarja Cronberg, Chair of the European Parliament Iran Delegation.
Jim Boumelha, the President of the International Federation of Journalists
Beth Costa, General Secretary of the International Federation of Journalists.
Ali Mazrooei, Head of the Association of Iranian Journalists
